Saturday, October 20: Southfield to Las Vegas to Boulder City, NV
First thing you see off the plane and into the airport, IN the airport: casinos! Welcome to Vegas, baby.
So much noise, so much sun, so much hoke, so much smoke, so much peoples. Changed into my Capris in the front seat of the car, thank goodness, or I would have died of heat.
Young women in pairs; high heels, feathers, and naked butts. Literally naked, as in let it all hang out. All. Take a picture with a showgirl, mister, and pay us money.
Lots of walking to the Venetian (because one of Dad’s coworkers said it was really interesting) which kept not getting closer as we tried to navigate through the canyons of the Vegas streets. So much smoke. When we finally got there it was kind of interesting, in a hoky, kitchy way. Not sure it was worth all that walking, though.
I saw the Bellagio fountains! That’s the first thing I get to cross off my list. ππππΆπππ They play a different one every half hour, and each one lasts 3-5 minutes. We managed to catch two showings. It was very impressive the first time (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arxyVbRL_N8), and absolutely beautiful the second time (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l46xNxjVevU ). Would have loved to stay and watch it a dozen more times. The water was so graceful, swirling and pirouetting; it truly looked like it was dancing.
We stopped to watch a street magician, who roped Dad in to his act. He asked Dad to sign a $10 bill (which Dad good-naturedly provided). At the end of the act the bill turned up in a lemon the magician cut open, kind of damp, and very lemony. Pretty cool. Dad handed over half the 10 dollars when the “show” was done.
Drove to hotel, ate dinner at hotel, and ZONKed.
